Our partner is a well-established NGO based in Fort Portal, western Uganda, working to improve the lives of children and young people with disabilities and their families.
Founded in 2014, the organisation now has more than 100 staff and delivers programmes across rehabilitation, inclusive education, assistive technology, livelihoods and disability advocacy. Its work includes supporting more than 1,000 children each month through rehabilitation and outreach services, training teachers and supporting inclusive education, and producing locally made mobility aids.
The organisation has an established QuickBooks system and a three-person finance team. Rather than introducing a new system, it is looking to make better use of its existing financial information, particularly around budgeting, cashflow forecasting, programme reporting and management information.
They are seeking an experienced volunteer accountant or finance professional to work alongside the finance team and Programme Leads, introducing practical improvements and helping staff better understand and manage their budgets.
Key areas of support are likely to include:
- Reviewing and improving the use of QuickBooks for budgeting and reporting
- Developing programme budgets and monthly budget monitoring reports
- Strengthening cashflow forecasting
- Developing simple management dashboards
- Improving reporting for Programme Leads, senior management and the Board
- Strengthening donor and restricted fund reporting
- Developing practical programme costing and reporting tools
- Coaching finance staff and Programme Leads to better understand financial information
This is a practical capacity-building placement focused on helping the organisation get more from its existing systems while strengthening financial management and decision-making across the organisation.
The placement would suit an experienced finance professional with strong budgeting, cashflow forecasting and management reporting skills. QuickBooks and NGO or charity sector experience would be particularly useful.
The placement will be based in Fort Portal and the organisation is flexible on timing, with volunteers welcome as soon as available. They are ideally looking for support for approximately 2–3 months.
A one-bedroom house is provided free of charge. Lunch is also provided during the working week.
