Our partner is a non-profit conservation organisation based at a wildlife centre in West Java, Indonesia. Established in 2001 as a wildlife rescue centre, it now works across wildlife rescue, conservation breeding, sustainable farming, education and in situ conservation.
As the organisation seeks to attract more funding from US and European donors, it is looking to strengthen its financial management systems and ensure that its records and processes can meet increasingly rigorous due diligence and audit requirements.
There is currently no dedicated finance staff member. Financial responsibilities are shared across senior staff, programme managers and administration staff, with records managed through a combination of manual processes and Excel.
They are seeking an experienced volunteer accountant or finance professional to undertake a detailed review of current systems and processes, identify priority improvements and help the team begin implementing practical changes.
Key areas of support are likely to include:
- Carrying out a finance health check
- Reviewing financial records, approvals, expenditure controls and supporting documentation
- Assessing audit readiness and identifying key gaps
- Strengthening internal controls around procurement, payroll, tax and programme budgets
- Reviewing financial reporting and budget monitoring
- Assessing whether accounting software would be appropriate
- Supporting implementation of priority recommendations
- Providing practical training and coaching to staff
- Helping programme managers strengthen budgeting, reporting and donor compliance
This is a practical and developmental placement focused on helping the organisation understand where its financial systems need strengthening and supporting staff to embed more robust processes.
The placement will be based at the organisation’s wildlife centre in rural West Java and would suit an experienced, adaptable volunteer with a strong background in internal controls, financial systems review, audit readiness and coaching non-finance staff.
