Mentor
Our partner is a community-led organisation in Colombia working to restore food sovereignty, protect ecosystems and preserve cultural heritage. Their work centres on regenerative forest farming, youth education and training, cultural heritage products, agritourism, and local economic opportunity.
The organisation is moving into an important next stage of growth and is developing a hybrid model that combines nonprofit activities with earned-income initiatives. They are seeking mentoring support to help bring greater clarity to their financial model, so that they can make informed decisions across their nonprofit and revenue-generating activities and move toward a more sustainable structure.
The mentoring could focus on:
- Supporting strategic financial planning across the organisation’s hybrid structure, including nonprofit activities, tourism income and product-based earned revenue
- Helping the team think through how to separate, organise and understand income, costs and responsibilities across different entities or activity areas
- Reviewing budgeting and forecasting approaches, including costs and pricing for tourism packages, farm tours and product sales.
- Acting as a sounding board as the organisation develops earned income streams that can support its social and nonprofit goals
- Helping the team consider what financial information, reporting and narratives may be needed to support future grant applications and funder conversations
The overall aim would be to help bring greater clarity to the organisation’s financial model, supporting stronger decision-making across both nonprofit and earned-income activities. A Spanish-speaking mentor would be particularly valuable, so that the organisation’s accountant can also benefit from the support.
This mentorship would suit a finance professional with experience supporting hybrid organisations, social enterprises, community-based nonprofits or early-stage mission-driven ventures. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, pricing, earned-income models, grant readiness and simple financial structuring would be especially helpful. Spanish language skills would be highly desirable.
The mentorship will be delivered remotely over six months, with approximately 2–4 hours of support per month.
