Treasurer
Our partner is a UK charity supporting an established programme in Malawi helping smallholder farmers improve food security through climate-smart agriculture. The wider organisation also includes a US fundraising entity and a Malawi delivery organisation.
The Treasurer will join a long-standing Board of seven Trustees and take on a practical finance role covering both day-to-day financial management and Board-level oversight. Responsibilities include payroll, payments, invoicing, bank reconciliation, restricted fund tracking, annual accounts and supporting the development of financial controls and reporting.
The UK charity uses Xero, while the Malawi organisation uses QuickBooks. The Treasurer will also provide some support and oversight to the Malawi finance team, and may occasionally travel to Malawi, with expenses covered by the charity.
The ideal candidate will bring strong recent hands-on accounting experience and be comfortable working independently in a small charity environment. A professional qualification is not essential, and an experienced bookkeeper or part-qualified accountant could also be a strong fit. Experience of Xero, QuickBooks, charity finance or international organisations would be useful.
All Board meetings are held online and the expected commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per week. The charity is also open to considering a split of responsibilities if appropriate.
