Finance Check-in Support

Remote volunteer assignment supporting a small community development organisation in Malawi with light-touch weekly finance check-ins, helping the team stay on track with templates, expenditure records, receipts, filing and basic processes.

Our partner is a small community development organisation in Malawi working to support livelihoods, enterprise and local economic development.

The organisation has recently received support to strengthen its basic financial management processes and is now looking for a volunteer accountant to provide light-touch remote follow-up support, helping the team stay on track as they begin using new Excel templates and routines.

This is a small, focused assignment. The partner does not need a full finance review at this stage, but would benefit from a patient and practical volunteer who can check in regularly, review how things are progressing, and provide clear guidance where needed.

Key areas of support

The volunteer will provide an initial introductory call, followed by short weekly check-ins. Support may include:

  • Reviewing how the team are using new finance templates
  • Checking progress with recording expenditure
  • Reviewing expense reports, receipts and payment vouchers
  • Supporting improvements to filing and documentation
  • Helping the team strengthen basic processes
  • Answering practical questions and reinforcing good financial discipline
  • Flagging any areas that may need more detailed follow-up later

The ideal volunteer

We are looking for a qualified or experienced accountant with a patient, practical and supportive approach. The assignment would suit someone comfortable working with simple systems and helping finance staff build confidence step by step.

This is a good opportunity for someone who can offer a small amount of time but still make a very useful contribution to an organisation trying hard to strengthen its day-to-day financial management.

Time commitment

The assignment is expected to involve an initial introductory call, followed by approximately one hour per week for up to three months.

The total time commitment will be up to 15 hours. The support is intended to be light-touch and regular, helping the team stay on track, review progress, and address practical questions as they arise.
