Regional Finance Officer

A varied finance role supporting programmes across Africa, with responsibility for donor reporting, budgeting, forecasting, month-end processes, compliance and financial analysis.

We are seeking a Regional Finance Officer to provide high-quality financial support to a portfolio of programmes across Africa.

Working closely with the Regional Finance Manager and programme teams, the successful candidate will help ensure effective financial management, accurate budgeting and forecasting, strong donor compliance and timely financial reporting.

This is a UK-based role offering a salary of £32,000. The position is ideally based on a hybrid basis, with frequent travel to the organisation’s UK offices. Candidates must already have the right to work in the UK.

The role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to build their knowledge of international humanitarian programme finance while supporting teams operating across a complex and varied regional portfolio.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the preparation of timely donor financial reports and requests for funds.
  • Assisting with the development of donor budgets using the organisation’s financial planning system.
  • Supporting improvements to budgeting, forecasting, financial tools and reporting processes.
  • Monitoring grants and contracts and helping programme teams forecast project costs through to completion.
  • Preparing supporting financial information and documentation for donor and contract audits.
  • Helping programmes prepare country budgets and anticipated donor funding allocations.
  • Supporting month-end processes, including reviews of cash, bank accounts and balance sheets.
  • Preparing journals, cost allocations and expenditure reviews, including checks for donor eligibility.
  • Reviewing and reconciling implementing partner financial reports and payment requests.
  • Supporting the preparation of programme forecasts.
  • Monitoring compliance with donor regulations and organisational financial procedures.
  • Supporting desk-based and field-based financial compliance reviews.
  • Liaising with external auditors and country teams during grant and contract audits.

About you

You will have strong and demonstrable experience in a finance role, whether gained through professional qualifications or qualification by experience.

You will be confident working with detailed financial and operational information and committed to producing accurate, high-quality work. Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, month-end accounting, donor reporting or grant-funded programmes would be particularly relevant.

Strong Excel skills are essential, including the ability to manipulate and analyse financial data using functions such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP and SUMIF.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues across different programmes, locations and professional backgrounds. You should be able to explain financial information clearly, manage competing priorities and provide practical support to non-finance colleagues.

The organisation is looking for someone who learns actively, supports colleagues and demonstrates strong professional values through their work and interactions.

Applicants must be based in the UK, have the existing right to work in the UK and be able to travel regularly to the organisation’s UK offices.
