We are seeking an International Finance Manager to provide financial leadership to a portfolio of programmes operated by a major international humanitarian organisation.
Working closely with Programme Managers and regional and headquarters finance teams, the successful candidate will ensure programmes have strong financial planning, reporting, controls and compliance arrangements. They will provide both strategic financial advice and practical support to country operations, helping programmes manage funding, financial risk and donor obligations effectively.
This role is based in the Solomon Islands. The package includes a salary of £42,000 net of all taxes, together with accommodation, travel and an additional living allowance. The organisation also offers 49 days’ annual holiday.
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting the preparation, implementation and monitoring of annual business plans, project budgets and financial forecasts.
- Analysing programme funding positions and developing financial scenarios to support ongoing stability.
- Leading the financial monitoring of grants and contracts, including forecasting project costs through to completion.
- Providing financial oversight across programme locations and ensuring transactions are reconciled and discrepancies addressed.
- Overseeing country accounting processes and ensuring books are closed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Ensuring direct and indirect costs are allocated appropriately and identifying potential gaps in cost recovery.
- Overseeing the financial management of delivery partner contracts and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Supervising payroll processes, including donor allocations, taxation, social security, severance and other statutory requirements.
- Supporting compliance with local tax, registration, employment and other regulatory requirements.
- Managing programme cash flow, banking arrangements, cash transfers and the effects of exchange-rate movements.
- Leading the preparation of country financial statements, donor financial reports and external audits.
- Monitoring compliance with organisational finance and logistics policies and strengthening financial controls.
- Ensuring finance teams have the capacity required to support programme delivery.
- Managing, developing and building the capabilities of national finance staff.
About you
You will be a qualified accountant or an experienced finance professional with clearly demonstrable qualification-by-experience.
You will have at least two years’ financial management experience overseas, ideally within international development, humanitarian operations or another complex international environment. Experience managing and developing a small finance team is also essential.
You will bring strong skills in financial planning, budgeting, reporting, donor compliance, financial risk management, cash management and internal controls. You should be comfortable interpreting donor and client contracts and implementing financial policies and procedures in challenging environments.
The role requires excellent organisational, analytical, numeracy and IT skills, including the ability to manipulate and interpret financial data. You will also need the flexibility to combine strategic financial leadership with routine operational and administrative responsibilities.
